Product Design & Development

We want to help you succeed in every step of your product design process.

Whether you employ electrical engineers, software engineers, industrial design visionaries, regulatory specialists, or marketing gurus, we offer contract engineering support by working as an extension of your permanent team. You can rely on us to manage an entire product design, working with and alongside your team as required for cross-functional input and review.

Brainstorm.

Leverage our breadth of insight and experience as consultants to give you fresh ideas and new perspectives. Our experience encompasses system-level design as well as design and drawings for individual components. We are able to work on-site when required, and otherwise keep in touch via phone and web conferencing.

Design & Analysis.

We are experts at leveraging SOLIDWORKS for ideating, modeling, and designing products. If you can describe it, we can CAD it.

Product design frequently depends on ergonomics and human factors that are specific to a target audience. Our team has experience working with focus groups and designing to meet “soft” requirements that are often discussed or demonstrated in-person. We can deliver conceptual sketches to marketing personnel before engineering development begins, and we commonly balance aesthetic and performance tradeoffs to achieve well-rounded designs.

DFM.

Depending on the requirements associated with each project, we commonly design parts of varying complexity: from low-cost sheet metal components to one-off, machined prototypes. We have designed injection molded parts for clients that develop high-volume consumer products and are familiar with injection molding design rules.

We have experience designing for many manufacturing methods and processes, some of which include:

•Machining

•Ceramic grinding

•Injection molding

•Adhesive attachment

•Thermoforming

•Die casting

•Sheet metal

•Forming

•Investment casting

•Metal coatings

•Stamping

•Rapid prototyping

Materials.

We select the best materials for your most demanding applications – some of which are listed below:

  • Parts subjected to fatigue loading on spacecraft hardware

  • Diode-pumped solid-state crystal components for an optically contacted laser cavity

  • Lightweight bearing components for rifle-mounted azimuth-elevation adjuster

We also have experience defining coatings and finishes for components, as required by their application:

  • AR/HR coatings for lenses and optical windows

  • Anodizing for aluminum parts

  • Heat treatment and finishing processes for steel and stainless steel parts

  • Surface finish specifications for injection molded parts

  • If required for your compact or automated assemblies, leverage our experience designing for adhesive bonding and alternative attachment techniques.

Sourcing.

As consultants, we have access to a large network of manufacturing partners. As we help you with your design needs, we can help connect you to quality suppliers to bring your product to life and optimize time to market without sacrificing quality. We have worked with overseas sourcing/distribution companies to hit our clients’ cost targets for high-volume components.

Build.

Your product will be fully built and tested not by lab techs, but by our dexterous engineers who are intimately familiar with the design intent. We all have hands-on experience in shop and lab settings, and have a fully equipped lab area to bring your product to life.
